Maya Calden lives in the Bay of Plenty Region in New Zealand with her husband, three children and two dogs.
When she’s not writing, she keeps busy working as a doctor in various locations throughout New Zealand, drives her kids around town or makes sure her dogs don’t dig up her garden.
Originally from Germany, she has worked and lived in the U.K., Australia and New Zealand, and has spent many summers in the U.S. during her university years.
Maya has been writing and telling stories since she was 12 years old. While she started her writing journey in German, she later changed to English which she found challenging but definitely worth it.
Writing has always been her passion but it took a sad backseat during her university time and postgraduate training years in her demanding medical occupation.
Having always had a strong interest in Scotland and Scottish clan history, many of her older stories took place in the historical fiction genre. She is fascinated by Scottish mythology, Celtic paganism, and healing practices. All in all, anything mystical.
Therefore, it’s not surprising she also loves mystical creatures, from fairies to vampires, and that some of her stories crossed into fantasy, dark fantasy and paranormal. It wasn’t until a few years ago that Maya discovered her love for Science Fiction. Her interest in genetic engineering, mind sciences and nano-technology made this genre a natural playground to let her imagination run riot and combine fiction with scientific evidence.
She was able to gain some basic experience in film-making and script-writing when she produced a book trailer for her book CROSSMIND in Italy.
Maya loves reading YA and NA Fiction, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Paranormal, and Woman’s Fiction. She also enjoys rock & grunge music and calls herself a DVD Boxset addict. Some of her favorite shows are Star Wars, Games of Thrones, Stranger Things, Supernatural, The Walking Dead, and many more.
